Johnson County Community College + Breeze Digital Signage: A Case Study

When working with clients on large scale projects, we ask ourselves a few questions before, during, and after the project to ensure that we acknowledge the client’s needs, their vision, and what we can do to better their current approach. Then, we develop a customized solution to support the client in their endeavors, combining a number of factors and team members here at Keywest Technology. Finally, we physically create that solution, provide support, and educate our clients on utilizing their solution.

Connecting local students to resources, information, entertainment, and education has never been easier thanks to the functionality of Johnson County Community College's digital signage displays. From directories, to menu boards, to stunningly beautiful video walls, Johnson County Community College has it all: with the help of Breeze Digital Signage Software.

Johnson County Community College (or JCCC, for short) wanted, and desperately needed, a more efficient, well rounded approach to providing information and communicating with their audience ranging from staff, students, and visiting guests, there was a wide variety of information and locations in which information had to be shared. At the time, they were utilizing physical signs and bulletin boards, which meant they had to physically change the sign or posting on the board whenever it was necessary to do so.

What kind of problem did the location or company have that they needed to solve?

Many different options were presented to the decision makers, including making no changes, using email notifications instead, or using some sort of LED sign. In the end, a visual electronic delivery system was the solution, and it was only a matter of determining which direction JCCC wanted to go in order to support their goals: cost-effective, easy to use and update, and most of all, eye-catching and interesting. Between a lot of debate, competitor analysis, many meetings, and knowing that Keywest Technology was the local solution that was needed to solve all of the pain points that the College was experiencing, they happened upon Breeze Digital Signage.

What solutions were considered, and how was the chosen solution decided upon?

JCCC has a wide range of hardware both in Breeze Players and in displays, from video walls, like seen above the Virginia Krebs Community Room; SignWave, outside of many lecture halls, ReaderBoard, used for digital directories located within hallways, menu boards in their student center, and many other displays sprinkled about campus. Most of their Breeze Players are 300s, but they also have some of our Breeze 352s, which has since been updated in the Keywest Technology product log to a Breeze-6000, also known as a 4K-capable cloned output Windows Player.

What type of hardware solution is used for this location or organization?

The Director of Audio-Visual stated that anytime a display had any issues, it was brought to their attention, thus giving great anecdotal evidence to audience awareness and improved audience retention. The displays are also consistently used for CAP Alerts, also known as emergency alerts for weather, intruder, fire, and other issues across the campus, to keep their students, staff, and visitors informed in case of an emergency, using Breeze's built-in integration to support CAP feeds. Additionally, they have had great success utilizing the software and displays across many different use cases, from SignWave and ReaderBoard, to menus, to simple signage reminding of a club meeting or welcoming a prospective student group.

How does the solution solve the initial problem, and how is it used today?
